Fring On Apple iPhone
Today, I took a little time off from blogging to play with a new application on my iPhone. I decided to install Fring on my iPhone. I have been a Fring user on my Nokia E61i for a year and have seen vast improvement on the application since I first started using it. I would ask for visual notification for new text messages and a better control on the volume of alerts but I would not complain since it is free.
Anyway, today, while thinking of which application to add to my iPhone that would enable me to Skype, I decided on Fring. I knew that IM+ from Shape Services could accomplish the same but I am not prepared to pay anything. IM+ is also Nokia friendly and I did try it out for a trial period and uninstalled it when it required me to upgrade. I did not miss it one bit.

So I decided on Fring. Installing is a very simple process. You just have to add Fring to the Sources. Follow the instructions in the Fring website and you are good to go.
Compared to Fring on my mobile device, Fring on iPhone has less features. I could still connect to my buddies who are on Skype, MSN Messenger, ICQ, SIP, Google Talk, Twitter, Yahoo! Messenger and AIM, though voice chat is disabled for Twitter, Yahoo! Messenger and AIM but it is still good enough. Who has the time to chat with so many people, right?

While I would have liked visual alert and a control over the volume of sound alert on my Nokia E61i, strangely, there was no sound alert on my iPhone. I tested with a friend who was on Fring with her spanking new Nokia N82. So yeah, there was no sound alert, no wonder there was no control over Fring sounds. LOL
But I still like to use Fring on my iPhone sometimes while I keep my Nokia E61i free because the battery may be low or something. Besides, I connect to Fring on the iPhone via wifi while I connect to it on Nokia E61i via 3G.
And I have been thinking, if you can voice chat to your buddies via Fring, you can even bypass paying for your call. I haven’t tried this yet, though. If you do, make sure that your internet connection is strong enough!
